TYI is excited to welcome back Elise Browning Miller for an In Person and Zoom Option Iyengar Yoga Weekend Workshop which will be held October 20th – 22th, 2023.   


The weekend schedule is:
Friday, October 20: 6:00PM – 8:30PM Yoga for the Neck, Shoulders, and Upper Back 

This workshop puts the emphasis on the neck, shoulders and upper back. In this time ofuncertainty, it may feel that we are carrying the world on our shoulders. This class will emphasize poses to address poor posture, tightness, reversed neck curve, shoulder dislocation, and kyphosis of the upper back. Teachers are invited to learn moreon how to help students with chronic neck and shoulder issues. All levels.


Saturday, October 21: 10:30AM – 1:00PM and 2:30pm—5:00pm ~ Yoga for Scoliosis: Structural and
Asymmetrical Non-structural Forms

This workshop will introduce both students and teachers to Elise’s internationally acclaimed methods for working with scoliosis. Elise will discuss the causes and effects of scoliosis and identify different types of scoliosis including nonstructural. Participants will learn how to adapt specific yoga postures with breath awareness to their scoliosis to improve structural alignment and relieve pain. The new addition to this program is how to address some of the asymmetries that show up in the spine that are not related to structural scoliosis but more likely from posture and injuries. All Levels.


Sunday, October 22: 10:00AM – 12:30PM Yoga for the Lower Back and Hips 

Yoga is a powerful tool for relieving back pain as well as teaching us how to mobilize, align and strengthen this area. This class is designed for all levels who need careful attention given to their lower back, hips and pelvis. Elise will address how to adapt certain yoga poses for a wide variety of lower back conditions and give a series of therapeutic yoga poses for a variety of lower back conditions. She’ll also identify and practice postures that emphasize both strength and flexibility.  Anatomy will be discussed as pertinent to the poses we learn.  All levels.


Elise Browning Miller, M.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from UNC-CH, is a Certified Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), and is Certified from International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). Elise has been teaching yoga throughout the US and internationally for over 30 years. A founding director of California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, Elise has suc- cessfully used yoga to minimize the effects of her own scoliosis. She has published numerous articles on scoliosis and other yoga related sub- jects in Yoga Journal and other national maga- zines. Elise has studied on numerous occa- sions with the Iyengars in India and specializes in Scoliosis, lower/upper back problems and sports related injuries. Elise co-authored a com- prehensive book Yoga for Scoliosis – A Path for Students and Teachers, as well as a Yoga for Scoliosis DVD and booklet, Yoga for Back Care booklet, and her book, Yoga: Anytime, Anywhere. Her joyous personality and ease of communication endear her to students with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise and nurturing. Friday and Sunday Individual Classes ~ $65.00 each.

This workshop meets requirements for 10 Continuing Education Hours for the Yoga Alliance Registry and 10 Contact Hours required for the 300 Hour Teacher Certification Programs at Triad Yoga, Greensboro and Sunrise Yoga, Clemmons.
